Divergence: 1940 CE
What if: Preliminary U.S. war plans were leaked to the press in 1940.
Summary: In drafting plans for a Pacific war, the United States is forced to adopt an aggressive defense of the Philippines rather than attempt to peck away at the Japanese. Aware of this, Yamamoto plans an invasion of the Philippines on Dec. 7, 1941, with a subsequent ambush of the U.S. fleet.
