Turtledove, Harry. Great War Multi-Series
Divergence: 1862 CE
What if: Robert E. Lee's Special Orders 191 were not discovered by Union soldiers, and the Confederacy consequently won the Battle of Antietam, and the Civil War.
Series note: An eleven-volume series, composed of a ten-volume serial novel and a stand-alone prequel. Although the ten volumes of the serial novel essentially flow one after the other, they has been marketed by the publisher as being two trilogies and a tetralogy. The initial stand-alone volume is How Few Remain. Set thirty years later is The Great War trilogy: American Front, Walk in Hell, and Breakthroughs. Immediately following is the American Empire trilogy: Blood & Iron, The Center Cannot Hold, and The Victorious Opposition. And following right after that are the volumes of the Settling Accounts tetralogy: Return Engagement, Drive to the East, The Grapple, and In at the Death.
Comments: The volumes do not refer to an overall name for this prolonged series. In addition to external references that it is called the Great War series, it may also be known as Southern Victory or Timeline 191 among fans.
